Somatic Therapy in Saint John, Fredericton & Across New Brunswick
Somatic-based therapy is a holistic approach to healing that focuses on the mind-body connection. It recognizes that trauma, stress and emotional pain are often stored in the body, not just the mind. By integrating talk therapy with body-based techniques like breathwork, movement and mindfulness, somatic therapy helps release stored tension, improve emotional regulation and promote overall well-being.
How We Can Help
Somatic therapy offers a powerful way to process emotions and heal from past experiences. It can help with:
Reducing anxiety, depression and chronic stress
Healing from trauma and PTSD
Improving emotional regulation and resilience
Enhancing self-awareness and body connection
Managing chronic pain and tension
Releasing long-held patterns of fear and discomfort
By working through the body, clients often experience deep, lasting relief that traditional talk therapy alone may not provide.
We offer somatic therapy in Fredericton, Saint John and virtually across New Brunswick.
How Somatic Therapy Works
Somatic-based therapy is a body-centered approach to mental health that emphasizes the connection between physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts.
Body-Centered Focus: “Somatic” means “relating to the body.” Somatic therapies use the body as a starting point—paying attention to tension, posture, breathing and other physical sensations to better understand and address emotional and mental health.
Mind-Body Connection: These approaches emphasize how our emotions and thoughts are linked to physical experiences. For instance, anxiety might show up as a tight chest or tense shoulders. Recognizing these connections helps in releasing stress or trauma stored in the body.
Complements Other Therapies: Somatic therapies can be used alongside other methods (like Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy). The goal is to integrate both mind and body for a fuller, more holistic healing experience.
Sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapist (LCT) are $160 for 50 minutes.
How much does therapy cost?
Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.
Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (MSW & BSW level social workers) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).
You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.
We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. You are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
