Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Saint John

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a structured, evidence-based breakthrough treatment that helps individuals process and resolve difficult memories and emotional experiences quickly and effectively.

ART uses eye movement techniques and guided visualization to reframe distressing memories and replace them with more positive images. Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART does not require clients to share details of their experiences, making it a highly effective and confidential option for healing. With ART, clients often experience rapid relief from emotional pain, helping them regain control and move forward with clarity and confidence.

How Accelerated Resolution Therapy can help:

  • Trauma and PTSD: Find relief from the burden of traumatic memories without needing to talk through them in detail.

  • Anxiety and Depression: Experience a reduction in symptoms as ART helps reframe negative reactions.

  • Phobias and Panic Attacks: Overcome fears and regain control over anxiety-triggering situations.

  • Grief and Loss: Process complicated feelings of grief with compassion and care.

  • Relationship Challenges: Address emotional triggers that may be impacting your relationships.

How Accelerated Resolution Therapy Works

ART sessions are client-centered and conducted in a safe, supportive environment. During your session, a trained therapist will guide you through a combination of eye movements and visualization exercises to help you access and reframe your emotional responses to challenging experiences. This method is non-invasive and does not require you to share your trauma details unless you choose to.

We offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy in-person in Saint John. Sessions cost $160 and are 50 minutes in length.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is similar to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in that both use eye movements to help process and resolve trauma and emotional distress. However, there are a few key differences between the two:

  • Therapeutic Structure: While EMDR follows an eight-phase protocol that can involve detailed recounting of traumatic memories, ART typically follows a more streamlined approach with less emphasis on verbal processing.

  • Client Experience: EMDR often requires clients to speak in detail about their traumatic experiences, while ART allows clients to reprocess trauma without the need for detailed discussion. This can make ART more appealing for those who find it difficult to talk about their experiences.

  • Visualization Techniques: ART incorporates guided visualization to help clients replace distressing images with positive ones, while EMDR focuses on helping clients process memories until they no longer elicit a negative response.

Both ART and EMDR are effective, and the right choice depends on individual client needs and preferences. Please contact us if you’re not sure which approach is the right one for you.

What is the difference between ART and EMDR?

  • Quick Results: ART can produce positive outcomes in fewer sessions than many traditional therapy approaches.

  • Less Verbal Processing: Ideal for those who find it difficult or distressing to talk about traumatic events.

  • Scientifically Backed: ART is recognized for its effectiveness in treating trauma and emotional dysregulation.

What are the benefits of ART?

Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.

Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).

You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.

We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. Your are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
