How CBT Works

CBT is a structured form of talk therapy designed to help individuals identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns. By recognizing negative or distorted thinking, you can begin to change the way you feel and respond to life’s challenges. CBT is goal-oriented and collaborative, meaning you and your therapist work together to understand your unique situation and develop strategies that align with your goals.

During your CBT sessions, you’ll work with a trained therapist to:

  1. Identify Problematic Thoughts: Explore patterns that may contribute to distress or unhelpful behaviours.

  2. Challenge and Reframe Thoughts: Learn to replace negative or distorted thoughts with balanced, constructive ones.

  3. Practice Skills: Apply new strategies through exercises, homework, and real-life scenarios.

  4. Monitor Progress: Track your growth and refine techniques to ensure lasting results.

CBT is typically short-term, often involving 6-20 sessions depending on your goals and the complexity of the challenges you face.

Sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapists (LCT) are $150 for 50 minutes. For families or couples, sessions are $160.

How much does CBT cost?

Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.

Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).

You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.

We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. Your are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
