Sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapists (LCT) are $140 for 50 minutes.
Sessions with Laura Gatien are $160 for 50 minutes.
Fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.
-
Our clinic has therapists that are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).
You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.
It is your responsibility to ensure your sessions are covered by your policy. It is also your responsibility to know the limit of insurance coverage.
Please note: Insurance DOES NOT cover No Show or late cancellations. If you have questions, please call or email our admin team at 506-651-1239 or admin@lauragatien.com.
-
Payment is expected in full at the time of service. We'll have you fill out a credit card authorization form so that we can charge your credit card at each session with the information we keep on file.
We will direct bill Blue Cross if applicable and only charge the co-pay (the portion not covered by your insurance) to your card on file. We can also direct bill other select insurance companies. Please note your insurance provider on your intake form.
All past outstanding balances must be paid before booking a new appointment. This includes past attended sessions, late cancellations or no-show fees.
-
We can direct bill various insurance plans such as Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, etc. provided your plan is set up for direct billing. The client is still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
If we cannot direct bill, payment from the client is due at the time of your session and a receipt will be provided for your direct reimbursement.
-
We do not, however we do work with many insurance plans. Please contact us if you have questions.

Yes, our associates are available for evening appointments. We do not offer appointments on weekends.

Clients can cancel or reschedule with a minimum of 24 hours notice, otherwise you will be charged for the session. A late cancellation (less than 24 hours notice) will result in a half session charge, and a no show will be charged a full session rate. Please note insurance does not cover no-show or missed appointments.
We understand that life happens and it's not always possible to provide sufficient notice. Prior to booking, consider having a back up plan for non-crisis situations to ensure you're able to make it to counselling should something come up. Arranging back up childcare or alternate transportation methods on the date of your appointment can be helpful.
We also offer the ability to change your appointment to a virtual one on short notice, should you be unable to attend in person. A credit card must be on file prior to switching to virtual.
Laura Gatien & Associates will send appointment reminders for your session via text and email, however it is your responsibility to keep track of your appointments. Keeping up to date on your weekly schedule along with a back up plan are all helpful ways to avoid paying for a session you didn't attend.
-
This varies from person to person depending on the nature and severity of the problem, desired goals and level of engagement from the client. Generally, many people see significant improvement in 8-12 sessions, and some after as little as 3 sessions.
How often you attend sessions is discussed collaboratively and is based on your needs and schedule.
You are always in control of your therapy, working at your own pace, and can choose the frequency and length to best suit your needs.

Registered social workers and clinical therapists are unable to provide an official diagnosis or prescribe medication, however they are well trained in mental health and can refer you to a Psychiatrist, with your doctors' consent, if you feel this would be helpful for you. Your family doctor is another great resource for a discussion around medication and whether or not a prescription would be a good option for you.

Yes, our associates practice from several clinical frameworks with CBT being one of them. CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; it is a well-established, effective and lasting treatment that can help with various issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship issues and chronic pain.
CBT involves problem solving and learning helpful strategies to practice between sessions. It focuses on identifying and understanding unhelpful thinking patterns to help change the way you feel. You are actively involved in your treatment and are often expected to do some homework between sessions. You can learn to control your thinking, maintain a sense of control and self-confidence and learn positive coping skills.
